What Does "Love One Another as I Have Loved You" Mean?
Jesus was charging his disciples with what seemed impossible. How could they love others with that same unconditional love that Jesus demonstrated time and time again? His disciples were shocked when Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman (see John 4:27). The twelve disciples may have been part of the group of followers that tried to turn away children from seeing Jesus (see Matthew 19:13). They failed to love others in the same way that Jesus loved others.
Jesus knew all of their shortcomings and growing edges, but he still gave them this new command to love one another just as he loved them. This command to love was new in the sense that the disciples would be empowered in a new way to carry out the same kind of love that Jesus had shown – a love that included acceptance, forgiveness, and compassion. It was a love marked by selflessness and putting others above oneself, a love that even transcended cultural normalizations and expectations.

Rainbow 101 is committed to bringing together people from all walks of life. We meet once per month on the 2nd Friday of every month. Mostly we meet at Trinity United Church in Smiths Falls but have many times throughout the year met at other locations. Check out and follow our Facebook Page for upcoming events.

On June 1st Trininty and Rainbow 101 celebrated Pride
in Smiths Falls and Perth by joining in on the parade.
On June 7th We presented the documentary “1946” as part of Free To Be… You and Me Pride 2024 Event.
One attendee said: "This documentary was eye opening to me. I speak to this as a heterosexual female."
In April, the topic was Pride Not Prejudice:
“Transphobia is often rooted in genderphobia; fear, dislike, or hatred of gender-nonconforming individuals or behaviour.”
We shared a short video by Berkeley Professor Judith Butler called What Is Gender? The video originates from Big Think+ Legends. Sex and gender: What’s the difference is explored in the video. We hope that it will stir up inclusive thinking and flip some prejudicial tables.
“We have to allow ourselves to be challenged and accept the invitation to revise our ways of thinking because that’s the only way of being open to people who are trying to make their claim sometimes for the very first time, to be heard, to be known, to be acknowledged.” Judith Butler.

We came together at the Pavilion in Smiths Falls Town Square to eat pie (mini tarts) and celebrate, learn and be a part of National Affirming PIE Day.

In February, Bowl for Kids
Rainbow 101 Bowled for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County and raised $260.00 for the cause.
We needed to practise our bowling skills so February 10th we went to the Spare Room Bowling Alley in Perth and out afterwards to Perth Pizzeria and Restaurant for munchies.
